Adam’s Rib

So here I am at it again. This time I am not promising anything, except anything could happen. That said, here is a little poem I wrote with some inspiration from the late, great poet Stevie Smith.

Adam’s Rib by Lynn King

Not from the top
Not superior
Not from the bottom
Not inferior
Not inside, outside, nor upside down
Right from the middle
That’s where she’s found

He’s made in God’s image
That’s what they say
Picked up from dirt
Made out of clay
He no longer sees his history
He no longer sees the person that is she

Not from the top
Not superior
Not from the bottom
Not inferior
Not inside, outside, nor upside down
Right from the middle
That’s where she’s found

No, she’s not made from terra
Like him, scraped up from earth
She’s stronger than that
From a rib, was her birthsnake_apple
But, he no longer accepts his history
He no longer respects her dignity

Not from the top
Not superior
Not from the bottom
Not inferior
Not inside, outside, nor upside down
Right from the middle
That’s where she’s foun

In the end they’ll be equal
Both returning to earth
And God will then judge
Who is more worth
Because he did not see his history
And, he did not see her equality.
